He studied Civil Engineering, specializing in Construction Management, at the University of Karlsruhe (Germany), and later completed his PhD in Construction Managament and Economics at the University of Cape Town (South Africa).
Prior to joining the Pforzheim University Professor Martin worked in Switzerland and South Africa, both in academia and in industry. He currently serves as the study programme head "Engineering and Management (BSc.)" as well as the Dean of Studies for all Engineering and Management BSc. programmes at Pforzheim University.
Business Analysis in the engineering sector is a key interest of Professor Martin. Throughout his career he has developed the skill to swiftly understand the needs of businesses and communities. A key component here is the correct interpretation of the impact of contexts on the businesses and people involved - particular when analyzing businesses and projects abroad.
His work on the African continent has shaped his ability to be a bridge-builder between actors from emerging and industrialized economies. This is supported through robust competencies in analysis, using various research designs and methodology.
