The REM Colloquium started with climate researcher Professor Pfeilsticker

Professor Dr. Klaus Pfeilsticker, Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Heidelberg subsumed the knowledge on climate change: in the long run a temperature increase of 3 to 5 degrees is expected. That would be – in geological terms - a new era. The increase of a degree Celsius means e.g. that a vegetation shift of about 800 km to the south will take place: "Pforzheim is then in North Africa," said Pfeilsticker vividly. These prospects were the  reason to work in his hometown Isny for an energy transition to renewable energies. His goal is to halve the fossil primary energy demand within one generation by 2050. The successes which he could imagine are already encouraging. In Isny many citizens and the community itself engage in the use of solar and wind energy, biomass and district heating networks. His conclusion: "The problem is not a lack of technology! The Energy turnaround has to be organized. Therefore we need people! "
