RE Colloquium: energy transition to the test

Many countries currently look particularly interested to Germany , as it is preceded with the energy turnaround. Because Germany is exemplary, whether one can replace the fossil or nuclear energy technologies with renewable energies , Sylvia Pilarsky-Grosch said at the Resource Efficiency Colloquium at Pforzheim University .Therefore, the President of the Federal Wind Energy Association warns of a standstill or even regression in the development of alternative energies , such as he is currently looming in the coalition negotiations in Berlin. This would not only have negative consequences for the German energy turnaround , but would be universally understood as a signal in the wrong direction.
Pilarsky-Grosch represents with her association approximately 20,000 members, including 3,500 companies that are engaged as a manufacturer, supplier or operator of the wind energy sector . Wind energy in Germany can certainly be seen as a success story . By the end of 2012 a capacity of over 31 gigawatts of 23,000 plants was installed - for comparison : a large nuclear power plant unit has just over one gigawatt . The production cost of electricity from wind power are also comparable with modern gas-fired power plants and thus competitive.
However, Baden- Württemberg is one among the German states that bring up the rear , at only half a gigawatt .Pilarsky-Grosch's presentation is based on a Fraunhofer study , after which a wind power capacity of 23 gigawatts would be conceivable, which could cover about half of the electricity consumption in Baden- Württemberg . The state government , however, would follow the very moderate track of 10 percent wind energy by 2020.
For the future, the association's president puts great expectations in smart concepts, in which wind power is interconnected with solar power and bioenergy plants. Thus a long-term power supply from 100 percent renewable energy is possible and the security of supply could be guaranteed.
