The international expert jury of the Red Dot Awards has presented the Opel Astra with the Red Dot Award 2023 in the "Product Design" category. Professor Kurt Beyer was responsible for designing the entire interior of the Opel Astra. Under his design leadership as chief designer, the Color and Trim Concept and the design development of the seat styling were created in addition to the interior. Since summer 2022, Kurt Beyer has been a professor at Pforzheim University and now is leading the Transportation Design program.

The Red Dot Design Award is considered one of the world's most prestigious design prizes and awards the title to outstanding achievements in product design. Among other awards, the Opel Astra has already won the Golden Steering Wheel 2022 and was named "German Car of the Year 2023 in the compact class." "The Red Dot award has a very high significance for me because this prize explicitly honors design. The award makes me extremely proud and shows how creatively and innovatively my former team designed the interior of the Opel Astra," says Professor Kurt Beyer. The design development of the sixth Astra generation started at the beginning of 2019, with the new Astra celebrating its world premiere in September 2021.
