Aspects such as environmental protection and sustainability are reasons why consumers are increasingly switching to organically produced food. But who buys organic products, must dig deeper into his pocket. Which foods and to what extent consumers are affected by price differences, becomes clear by using a basket-based price comparison. In the section of "Food and non-alcoholic beverages" the weighted average of price indices of the 224 product specificationsdefined for this section adds up to a price index of 183. Therefore, if instead of conventional products the greener alternatives are purchased, the surcharge would be at 83%. Dr. Christian Haubach and Benjamin Held explain this and more results in her essay "Ist ökologischer Konsum teurer?" in issue 1/2015 of the scientific journal WiSta.
