Exhibition 'Stories of HipHop'
Event - Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim
Large, heavy chains, a ring on every finger, grillz, snapback caps and stylish sunglasses: Hip hop has had a lasting influence on the jewellery industry, just like fashion and music. The "Stories of HipHop" exhibition deals with the entire hip-hop culture and, in addition to the jewellery, shows portraits of famous hip-hop musicians and their statements as well as a large-format picture gallery by photographer ONDRO with key figures from the scene. "We tell stories about this social phenomenon," explains curator Tom Frietsch. A record shop is also on display, and the legendary Rucker Park in New York has been recreated in the glass cube as an example of a streetball field and rapper meeting place. "Stories of HipHop" covers the entire Reuchlinhaus.
Included: students from the Fashion, Jewellery and Accessories departments of the School of Design. Under the motto "Pforzheim design meets hip-hop", they set out in search of clues and explored the relationship between design and hip-hop. The result is unique pieces for hip-hop artists chosen by them, such as Bush.ida or Finna, which are shown in the exhibition. The project was led by Prof Claudia Throm, Prof Dr Evelyn Echle and lecturer Markus Müller, with the support of ONDRO.
