Complementing business education with vital soft skills

Creating and delivering impactful presentations is an integral part of effective communication skills. Especially in today´s dynamic and fast-changing corporate world, business decisions are based on well-structured, relevant, and accurate depictions of information and data via presentations. To imbibe these crucial skills within MBA students, Dr. Aurelia Engelsberger, CEO of OMIND consulting and a presentation expert, held a 3-day workshop at the university. This allowed students to gain valuable insights into effective communication and presentation skills and the German start-up scene.
On the first day, students learned about the essentials of an effective presentation. Mrs. Engelsberger shed light on the various elements that make up a strong pitch deck. She gave various tools to the students such as the “Presentation storyboard” and the “SCQ framework” which students could use right away in their university presentations. The session also included some important “Do`s and Don`ts” and best practices about various aspects of a presentation such as fonts, animations, and action titles to name a few.
The second day of the workshop concentrated on the practical aspects of a presentation such as body language, voice modulation, and stress management. Mrs. Engelsberger then provided valuable advice about engaging storytelling as a part of effective communication. Thereafter, students were given a chance to come up with a 2-minute presentation on any topic of their choice.  Common mistakes while presenting were identified and corrected on the spot. Mrs. Engelsberger then invited Lea Kunz, Digital Designer at OMIND platform GmbH, to hold a Q&A session for solving doubts related to the technical aspects of creating a strong pitch deck.
The third and final day was participant-focused, with all students presenting their respective presentations. Before the presentations, Mrs. Engelberger provided guidance about providing constructive peer feedback. After each presentation, feedback was provided by the Mrs. Engelsberger as well as fellow students. The workshop ended summarizing all the important learnings from the whole workshop and solving a few last-minute doubts from the participants.
This workshop has surely furnished for the “Pforzheim MBA” students with a wide range of tools and skill sets to create and deliver masterful corporate presentations.
