FUN TIMES AT MBA PFORZHEIM
News
Pforzheim University believes in the importance of teambuilding initiatives that we try to incorporate in our MBA program for our students to make the most of not only the exemplary academic experience offered at our business school, but also for them to have fun while learning. Earlier this semester, Pforzheim Business School organized two events for our first semester students – Bowling Night and German Culture through Film in an effort to offer the students a chance to bond with one another and also get to learn more about the German culture.
Bowling Night
It’s hard to find an activity that beats bowling when it comes to a teambuilding activity and that also encourages the flair of competitiveness amongst students. The MBA staff including Katja Flockau - Program Coordinator, Ruth Elsässer – Admission Committee and Sabrina Mitrasch – Office Management, along with our full batch of first semester students went to a local bowling alley in Pforzheim to enjoy this immensely fun activity. The students formed three teams and passionately competed over two rounds of bowling. This was a unique opportunity for the students to bond with one another outside the classrooms, something that would not only help them become better teammates in their group projects of the program, but also perhaps ignite the transition from simply being MBA classmates to rather form lifelong associations marked by such enjoyable experiences and fond memories.
German Culture through Film
It’s been a tradition at Pforzheim Business School to facilitate the learning of German culture by students through the viewing of a German film each semester. This initiative was started by Björn Flockau, our former MBA Program Coordinator, who now works in the Quality Management department of the university. For our first semester students, Björn chose a light-hearted contemporary comedy about student living called ‘Drei Zimmer/ Küche /Bad’ by Dietrich Brüggemann, 2012. The movie followed the lives of eight students living in Berlin and the events that took place as they helped each other repeatedly move from one apartment to another, and how these changes of the apartments also bring about a change in their relationships – some broke, while others grew. It was a humorous take on the lives of German students sharing a flat and it was great to see our MBA students thoroughly enjoying it.
Post the movie, the students enthusiastically participated in a discussion with Björn regarding German culture, a representative part of which they witnessed in the movie. Watching foreign films is a fun way to break the ice in a new culture and to become somewhat familiarized with the nuances of German people and the language. In the second semester, the students will be looking forward to watching another German movie and Björn has promised them that they won’t be disappointed. So stay posted!
